Background to Psalms 31

Walter Brueggemann’s Spirituality of the Psalms explores why laments are an important part of our experience of God and forgiveness. Heather Caliri explores this here.

Try reading and re-reading Psalm 31 until it becomes part of you and in the face of panic let this psalm shape your prayers.
"David wrote this psalm after he had endured a fit of panic. It almost got the best of him, but he overcame it through God's power. When some people panic, they come completely unglued. Others face panic more stoically in an attempt to mask the fear. Internally, we become immobilized and powerless." taken from Steven May.
Eugene Peterson explains the difference between reading and studying the bible. We need to do both.
